Dr. S. Murthy Badiga, MD, FACP, FACG
Dr. Badiga received his medical degree from Guntur Medical College in India. He later completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center/New York Medical College. He did advanced fellowship training in ERCP at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. Dr. Badiga started his gastroenterology practice in the Rio Grande Valley in 1994. He is interested in disorders of the bile duct and the pancreas. colon cancer prevention, gastro esophageal reflux and endoscopic weight loss. Dr. Badiga has authored several abstracts, articles and book chapters. He has been featured as a top physician in both the Top Doctors Magazine and the Healthy Valley Magazine.
Melissa Cantu-Garza, MPAS, PA-C
Melissa's desire earned her bachelors of science degree at St. Mary University. She went on to study at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri where she earned her Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in healthcare management. Later, Melissa earned her Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
Early in her education, she developed an interest in gastroenterology after discovering the multitude of conditions it encompasses and their effect on a patients’ quality of life. Melissa desire to pursue a career in gastroenterology was cemented when she decided to focus her clinical elective in Gastroenterology with Dr. S. Murthy Badiga.
Melissa has worked alongside her mentor, Dr. Badiga since 2007. She is a member of several medical societies including the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterology Association, and the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
